Our Statue Blessing, a Time of Joy
Br. Andrew assists Fr. John Mary, our prior, during the blessing ceremony.
Dear family, friends, and benefactors,
We wish to thank all of you who attended our statue blessing and open house on September 27. Though the weather was overcast, there was sunshine on all faces. The good spirit and sense of celebration was due in part to how the chapel is taking on shape and character but more especially, the fellowship between friends, both old and new.
While the statues were well appreciated and noted for their beauty, it was the sight of our new mosaics that roused tremendous enthusiasm. This gives us the necessary confidence that mosaics are the right choice for the embellishment of our chapel.
The mosaic of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary
People were genuinely interested to know that the brothers intend to take on the future mosaic projects. We tried to answer all questions as well as possible, but some areas of interest, such as particular mosaic scenes, are still in the planning stage.
Our prior, Fr. John Mary, commenced the ceremony by first of giving thanks to God that there was no rain, as the forecast predicted. He also expressed deep gratitude for all the donors and everyone who has helped bring the chapel to its present condition. This prompted a round of applause, as if to say, “we are glad to help—keep going!”
Fr. John Mary then explained various facets of the new statuary, beginning with Our Lady of Grace at the peak. She obtains graces for all who come to pray at the chapel, and her arms are open as in a posture of welcome.
There were about 150 people who joined us this day.
Fr. John Mary, our prior, explains the meaning of the tympanum.
The tympanum above the door traditionally shows an eschatological scene such as the Last Judgment. However, we chose the Coronation as the crown of Our Lady’s life. Father then went onto explain various features of the statues of the prophets, Saints Elijah and Elisha.
Then commenced the actual blessing which was fairly simple. Afterwards, our Fr. Prior invited everyone to partake of the tasty baked goods that our friends, Therese Cho, Peg, and Nan, generously provided.
We wish to also thank all those who could not attend but have supported us all along. Our hands are continually raised, remembering your generosity before God. May your sacrifices be as a pleasant incense that wafts to His throne in heaven.
